Gifts for Baby.

Our baby has managed to rack up on gifts already, even in vitro. The shopaholic and lover of all things baby that I am, I could not be more pleased that our family & friends have been excited enough to give gifts to our little one. I have, of course, gotten a bunch of pregnancy books, which I am in the process of reading now.

Need an extra copy of What to
Expect When You're Expecting, anyone?

Here are a few other gifts Baby Klahn has gotten:

love these story books!

game day ready!

first blanket & bear...they are SO soft!

can't wait to see our little one sporting this!

holiday baking.

Tonight, my mom & I had some good ole fashioned bonding time baking. We made lots of good stuff: classic chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies, chocolate fudge, and, last but not least, my hubby's favorite - snickerdoodles - from scratch, thankyouverymuch.

We had a great time, made lots of yummy things, and felt all Christmas-y!! Now to share with my coworkers and enjoy the fruits of our labor!! YUM!

the first trimester life.

SO much going on lately - the holidays, fun baby stuff, and just our regular life! So why, you ask, can't I find time in all this madness to blog?

Let me set the scene for you. My days consist of:

1. Sleep as late as possible in order to get to work.
2. Work.
3. Go to whatever after-work commitments I have (church choir, errands, occasionally
something with friends...)
4. Come home.
5. Fall asleep on couch until hubby prods me to bed.

And repeat.

I must be that pregnant girl and report that the ONLY "morning sickness" I've really had is the two migraines I have gotten. Note to fellow migraine getters: you can't take your migraine meds while pregnant.

Other than that, I've had pretty fabulous luck. I've had most other symptoms, not the least of which is being exhausted ALL.THE.TIME.

I hear this fades. And since I am only two weeks away from my second trimester {wow! already??} I am looking forward to gaining some energy back.

I hope everyone has been having a fabulous December and is looking forward to a Merry Christmas!

Did you SEE the Titans game today??? Did you SEE our 99 yard drive to victory??? Did you SEE this drive??

If not (ok, even if you did), puh-lease go turn on ESPN and wait for it to come on again.

mini vacay.

I have been somewhat MIA recently, yet again. Most recent reason: a long weekend vacay that started Friday and is in its precious final hours as I type.

What we did: Some fun stuff. Christmas shopping. A movie.

And, most remarkably, a whole lot of NOTHING. Hanging out at home with my hubby, my dogs, and my cats is simply to-die-for, friends. Can't get enough of them!

Pumpkins, Chili, and Smores, Oh My!

My darling hubby, intently carving our pumpkin
This past weekend was the annual Klahn Harvest Festival. The first was started by me thankyouverymuch but has since migrated to my in-law's house, thanks to their awesome bonfire pit.
As you can tell, Mrs. Smith adores the gutting of the pumpkin.

We had lots of fun getting together, carving pumpkins, eating chili, and of course, eating smores.

My sis and I enjoying the best smores in the world.
Isn't fall grand?

a tale of two couples.

This lovely couple is celebrating 33 years of marital bliss today.

This lovely couple is aspiring to that, only about 31 years behind (but who's counting?).

Congrats Mom & Dad!

weekend bliss.

I should start with this - I love doing things for my husband. I like trying to surprise him (although this is nearly impossible), finding things in the store I know he'll love, and the like. So Friday, I decided I was going to make a run for Wife of the Year by treating him to a weekend he'd love. Here it is, picture style - because I think pictures make posts more fun.
this happy couple loves some sports. even if our teams are having the most dismal of seasons.

We started off Friday evening with a little date night: dinner at Logan's & then a movie that hubby's been dying to relive his childhood by seeing:

surprisingly poignant. i cried. but hey, i also cried at the nutty professor.

For Saturday, I wanted something really fun and festive now that the weather has turned chilly. So this morning, we made our way to a delish brunch at Ellendale's, followed by some good ole college football.

vandy vs. georgia...good seats, huh?

After that, we headed to Cheesecake Factory for some grub and a to-die-for piece of pumpkin pie cheesecake (one was enough to split, natch). And now we're curled up in the bonus room with our doggies. Pretty much perfection in my book.

ordering this should make thanksgiving dessert a sinch! YUM.

Hope you had as great a weekend as we did!

California Love.

For the past 3 days, we have had some very special visitors in our house: the Blaylocks!

the highlight of the game - tailgating

Crystal & I have been friends for about 12 years now (yikes I'm old!), but since she lives in California, we don't get to see each other nearly as often as we would like. So imagine my excitement when not only she & her hubby came to visit, but brought along their newest addition - this adorable little bean!

little miss emery, aka the CUTEST little girl on the planet

We had a great weekend: Titans game, Walden Farm pumpkin patch, and some great eats too!

fun at the farm!

It was so much fun, and I already am looking forward to next spring, when we will hopefully be traveling out West to visit these super fun friends! Love you guys!!

Race for the Cure

This morning myself, some family & friends participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. It was a lot of fun and, of course, for a GREAT cause - the cure of breast cancer.

The race is a 5K run or walk (we walked...duh) and this year was held in Maryland Farms. The layout was great, we got lots of fun freebies and got to be outside in some beautiful weather! We also got to help with a great cause and see just a glimpse of how many women & families are touched by this disease.

Since October is breast cancer awareness month, make a mental note to give thanks and say a prayer for all of the important women in your life. I know I did today!

Happy Birthday Sis!

Here's wishing my sister-in-law (but more like my real sister) Misty the happiest 27th a girl could wish for! She is a wonderful person and I am so lucky to have her as a fellow Klahn!!

M is for Magazine. And Marie.

I LOVE reading magazines. First of all, I love to read, period. But, there is something so relaxing to me about curling up on the couch after a long day with a favorite magazine. Sadly, in the process of moving, not getting cool college discounts, etc., I have let all my subscriptions lapse.

Imagine my excitement, then, when I received this in the mail:

I have never subscribed before, but I picked up a free subscription online and thought I'd give it a try. Of course, being ME, I totally forgot about it until it popped into the mailbox yesterday. And look - it even has two of my favorite ladies on the cover!

Preliminary flipping through looks very promising. Can't wait to settle in this weekend and give it a good read!

My So-Called Life.

I've been a real blog-slacker lately, I know. So I thought I'd do one of those super easy catch-up posts to tell you why. Because I know the lack of Klahnsense has been driving you bananas, natch.

Here are the recent and, I think, at least mildly interesting events of life a la Klahn:
  • Andrew's Altima went to the tow-yard in the sky. Replacement: F-150 fabulosity. When I am caught by hubby using the word "fabulosity" to describe the 2 tons (or however much trucks weigh) incarnating all that is manly on a steel frame, I will likely get some sort of monstrous eye roll, the likes of which I can't even comprehend heretofore.
  • The Office. By that, I mean work. It takes up an inordinate amount of time. I love my job, I love my job, I love my job.
  • The Office. This time I mean the show. Have you watched NBC Thursday nights lately? Yes, I realize this is not in fact an acceptable excuse for not blogging. Give me a break.
  • The revival of Wine & Grey's nights with The Smiths. Darling couple, those two. Yes, I mean the Smiths are darling, not the McDreamy's.
  • It's FALL. Glorious. This brings out fun new decorations, as well as fun fall activities. Hello, high school football games and pumpkin carving! Yes, I'm 16. And apparently also 5.

That seems like enough for now. See, its like a soap opera - you miss a few weeks, but as long as you know all the characters you can just jump right back in. And trust me - our house is FULL of characters (see adorable-yet-mischevious pets to the right - not to mention my other half!).

Note: My subconcious is feeling guilty, and I must admit that I purposefully wrote the F-150 comment in order to fit in the word "heretofore." Hey, even nerds have to get excited over something.

My Grannie.

dancing queens on my wedding day.

I just wanted to take a minute today to celebrate an amazing life: that of my grannie, Dorothy Smith. She was a really incredible lady, and I am finding it really hard to believe today that we have spent an entire year without her already.

She loved life and loved to have fun, and everyone loved her for that. I miss her, but I'm very lucky to have had all the fun times together with her that I had.

I wish I had some of her younger pictures to show you - she was quite the catch! But this will have to suffice for now.

rainy days and mondays...

Today it is rainy. And blah. And I am working, instead of at home curled up working on HP book 3. So what is keeping me sane? Simply this, my friends -

The hope of spending a week here in the spring:

Amelia Island Plantation

Totally fab, no? Swoon.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!

This weekend we celebrated our friends, Chelsea & Jordan. The boys went off on a weekend trip to Current River, while us girls celebrated with a good old fashioned sleepover. Not just any sleepover, though...

The day started with a champagne brunch. We used different chinas. It was quite lovely.

Ooo, la la.

After that, we had a lingerie shower for the bride, went to a vineyard and stomped grapes, ate pizza, danced, and most importantly, celebrated this lovely lady right here:

isn't she a peach?

Instead of a bunch of guess-you-had-to-be-there stories, I thought I would just give you the scoop in pictures. Enjoy!

par-tay.

the bride made us pimp cups. yep, she's awesome.

bests.

fun at the vineyard!

the moh. LOVE her!

stomp, stomp, stomp.

I'll be there for you...

This Show = Pretty Much Amazing.
We laugh, we cry...

OK - we laugh, I cry (hey, some parts really get you!)

Anyway, it is one of the many things we like to watch together. Sure, we each have our own shows (hello, Kendra!) but one of the favorite pastimes in our household is finding shows we both love, and then watching these shows weekly. Or, if we're lucky and find a show that's already on DVD (like that's challenging) then we can watch whenever we want.

Currently, Friends is our show of choice.

Some other highly esteemed programming we strongly recommend:

Girls Next Door {hey, we watch it for the articles!}
Scrubs {LOVE Turk & Carla!}
Cheers {classic!}
The Office {the best sitcom currently on TV}
So go watch one tonight...or better yet, give me some ideas for our next show!

Great minds think alike, but opposites attract.

Tonight my darling husband randomly pulled up a personality test website online. Imagine my excitement - I LOVE these things. I find them incredibly fascinating. Its so fun reading them, saying to yourself, "Woah, that's me! How do they KNOW these things?"

Are we that easy to read?

So, we both did the test, and I must say, it did not disappoint. It was spot on, and also gave career fields - comforting to know we are both doing some our personalities are happy with.

So here are the dirty details:

Me: INTJ. This means I am Introvert (check!), Intuitive (natch!), Thinker (of course!) and Judger (not sure how positive this one actually is, but me, nonetheless).

Some fun facts:
  • Perfectionist. {Um, yes, this would be true. You should see me editing blog posts.}

  • Thrives on autonomy and achievement. {School nerd. Anyone remember?}

  • Sets unrealistically high standards. {As in keeping a super clean house with four furballs.}

  • Natural critical thinker and brainstormer. {Thank you, SEEK program.}

Hubby Dearest: ISTP. Two matching the misses (introvert and thinker) and two very different (sensor and perceivor).

Points of interest:

  • Quiet, realistic, independent, pragmatic. {Need I say more? They have him pegged!}

  • Person of few words. {See, it isn't just because he can't get a word in around here.}

  • Loves to joke with people he feels comfortable with {Isn't he just a card?}

  • Storehouse of info on things they know well {Read: Knows every MLB player. Ever.}

So this is us. Our personalities. Alike but different. Complimentary, I think. And part of why we are one of the greatest matched sets since salt & pepper.

Hopefully you've had fun reading these and going "Mmm Hmm. Oh, that is so true. Uncanny!" Or something equally as flabbergasted.

And if you want to see for yourself what your type is, go here. It really is fabulous.

Happy Birthday, Darling!

Happy 24th Birthday to my dearest best, The Future Mrs. Smith.

Isn't she just divine? I think so.

Are you ready for some FOOTBALL??

Saturday night was the preseason home opener for our team, the Tennessee Titans. Tried and true fans that we are, we trekked down to LP Field for the big night. Some tailgating fun, a turkey leg at Logan's, and a hike up the ramps, and we were there!

The team looked great and we won 27 - 20. Here's to a season of WINS!

Super Bowl, here we come!

Crossville

Andrew & I just returned from a fun mini-vacation with his parents in Crossville, TN. They have a timeshare there, right on the lake. It is SO pretty! We had a great time just relaxing together.

Doesn't he look relaxed?

Some of the fun we had in Crossville included touring the two local wineries (& sampling, natch!); hanging around the resort (mini-golf!); getting some much needed REST; and of course, fishing. This was my second time fishing, and I am happy to report that I caught four fish and got only mildly sunburt in the process. Riding in the boat was the best part though!

See my golfer shorts?

To see the rest of the pictures from our trip, go here. It was a great long weekend!

Congrats Jenny!

My sis-in-law's boxer girl Jenny just had her first litter of pups last night. They are SO adorable!! If you are thinking about getting a dog, a boxer is the absolute best dog on the planet if you have other pets, kids, or just love dogs that love to love you.

Beware - the full grown ones do not know that maybe they are too big to crawl up in your lap and fall asleep like a little 10 pound dog. But no worries - their little sleeping faces are priceless.

For My First Act...

Hello Everyone!

So thanks to my BFF
The Future Mrs. Smith, I have been slowly sucked into the wonderful world of blogging and decided to create my own little space to share our family life. Hope you all enjoy.

Before we start on the day-to-day happenings, I thought I would fill you in on where our life is now:

Andrew & I were married June 23, 2007. Since then we've bought a house in Mt. Juliet and rooted ourselves accordingly. We love home owning, we've already made several fun changes around the house and have a lot of fun keeping up with it.

Since our wedding, we've acquired four furballs that we love dearly - you can see their darling pictures on the sidebar. They are sometimes a handful, but we wouldn't have it any other way! They are absolutely spoiled rotten - sleeping in bed, treats every day, the whole nine yards. Life is pretty sweet for these little rugrats.

Other than that, we both work full time and keep busy with church, training our dogs, and other varied life pursuits.

All in all, we have a great life and are happy to share it with you here. Happy reading!
